Why is one elevator wire rope damaged and all the wire ropes need to be replaced?

- Oct 13, 2022-

Generally, elevators have multiple hanging steel wire ropes. If one of the steel wire ropes is damaged, it warns us that there may be a problem with the adjacent steel wire ropes, because when the elevators are installed, the steel wire ropes are all installed and used at the same time in the same batch, and nothing can be seen on the surface. There is a steel wire rope that we replaced, which looks good on the surface, but the inner part of the rope core has been rusted, so we need to replace the steel wire rope at the same time.

If we only replace one wire rope, it will lead to uneven stress of the wire rope, because the tension of the new wire rope is different from that of the old wire rope, just like the rubber band in my hand. The new wire rope has good extensibility, while the old wire rope has poor extensibility. This will lead to uneven wear of the traction wheel, which will eventually lead to damage of the traction wheel. In serious cases, the wire rope may slip abnormally with the traction sheave, causing safety accidents.
